Installation

Return to the Index

GPix Pixel Ad Script requires the following:

Installation is a simple, 4 step process. To begin, unzip the distribution files, then upload the contents of the "public_html" folder to the document root (or a directory beneath the document root if you prefer) on your server. Be sure to preserve the directory structure, including the empty directories "cache", "temp", and "templates_c".

Start the installer by pointing your web browser to the "install.php" file: http://www.yourdomain.com/install.php or similar. You should see the first step of the installer:

You may need to adjust the permissions of one or more files and folders on your server. If you're using AbsoluteFTP, for example, you can do this by right-clicking a file or folder, then click "Properties".

In step 2 of the installer, you should either specify that this is a new installation or upgrade. In either case, specify your database login data on this page. If you are upgrading from a previous version of GPix, be sure to specify the same Table Prefix that you did during original installation.

The upgrader is a "Universal Upgrader", which means that it doesn't matter which version you used previously. The upgrader will add any missing tables and fields to accomodate for the new version. It will also add any missing configuration settings, which were introduced in the new version.

Successful installation should result in this page. If any errors are reported in Step 2, make the necessary corrections and re-try the installer.

The Document root setting should not be changed, unless you are installing the script on a sub-domain like http://mps.domain.com, in which case you may wish to use the full URL to the script root. In other words, you could use http://subdomain.domain.com/ instead of /folder/ here. For most users, the default setting should be sufficient here.

In the next step, specify the mail settings. Most users should keep the "Standard Mail" setting, which will use PHP's mail function. You only need to fill-in the SMTP fields if you are using the SMTP option to send mail.

In the next step, select the language(s) you want to install. Remember that English is always installed by default. If you select any of this, texts will be added but your existing translation texts will be preserved.

Finally, start GPix by loading the admin panel. The default admin login is "admin" for both the username and password. Be sure to remove the "install" directory.

You should change the admin login immediately after login in the "Change Username/Password" menu option.

When the system begins it will be "Down for Maintenance". To activate it just click on the button next to the message. Now your "Public Site Status" is assigned to "Up"

Good luck!
