Advanced Searching

Return to the Index

osDate v2 introduces more advanced searching than osDate v1. The users can search on literally any profile field. In addition to gender searches (men searching for men/women, women searching for men/women, users may search for any username, specific age ranges, based on zip code proximity if the zip codes for the country have been loaded, etc.). Independent search options also exist for searching blogs and some other features of osDate.

By default, the system will attempt to perform a "cross matching" of similar interests - i.e. the searched profile's search preferences will be used to determine the correctness of the search. Hence, the search engine will check to ensure the searched profile is also looking for the searching profile's gender. For example, if a man is searching for users of all genders, the resulting profiles also should be looking for a man. This may lead one to believe that the search results are incorrect (i.e., "Why didn't John come up in my search results? Because although you may be looking for a man, he's not looking for a woman!")

If you want to turn off this cross matching feature of searches, in the global settings admin tool, there is an option to Bypass user look gender matching in searches?. Set this to 'Y', the default setting.

You can do searches on many profile preferences also - religion, political preferences, height, weight, fitness activities, and any other profile criteria.

You can save your searches for future recalls and quick searches, if search saving is available for your permission level. Blog searches are also available, again if blogs are enabled and blog searching is permitted for your permission level.
